Okrožje (District)

The idea for working with Polona and Peter came soon after we got to know one another better at a colony at the Korotan Slovenian Cultural Centre in Vienna. Polona proposed that we conceive a project concerned with drawing. After the first meetings we found that our views differed considerably, but we shared some common ground: all of us worked with transparency or perforation, and we were interested in the spatial effects of drawing, in perspective, and in space as part of the drawing itself.

Kresija Gallery is non-profit and has no fixed programme that would shape the selection of works thematically or otherwise, which makes it an opportunity for independent and experimental work. The exhibition title is a simple translation of "Kresija", a Slovenian corruption of the German Kreis — district.

In my own work I was concerned above all with perspective. Converging perspectival lines ran across the gallery's large display window towards a small opening through which one could look inside. Within were layered wax drawings with symbolically very elemental images of a woman, a man and a child.
