Izročilo / Legacy (sculpture-fountain)

2012, Grosuplje, the roundabout at the entrance to the town: a sculptural installation and fountain.

The sculpture Izročilo was selected in a competition, organised by the Municipality of Grosuplje, for a public sculpture-fountain on the town's new roundabout. Izročilo is the first public sculpture in Slovenia of a participatory character: it is composed of roughly three hundred casts of the hands of Grosuplje's residents.

That part of the making took place entirely in the town, at several public hand-casting sessions held mainly in front of the municipal library. The casts were taken in warm beeswax, and there is a connection between the material and the place they were made: Koščak House, which now holds the library and gallery, was the house of a wholesale honey merchant and one of the more important figures in Grosuplje's development.

The hand casts were cast in bronze, welded onto long rods, and the whole was later moved to the roundabout and arranged into a free composition. The residents' hand casts thus form some three hundred archetypal vessels, into which water flows from spring through to autumn.
