"In the long run we are all dead" is the sentence the world-renowned economist Keynes used when he was told that economics cannot count on multiplier effects by borrowing money and regulating finances through inflows from the state budget — and when he was asked how that would work "in the long run".

The exhibition In the Long Run We Are All Ancestors paraphrases that nihilistic position in its title, and adds to it, in visual terms, something largely forgotten during the twentieth century: a feminine wisdom that draws on the wisdom of our forebears and shapes its relationship to the generations still to be born. It is a reflection that reaches far into the past in order to help those who do not yet exist, and whom we may never meet. Diotima, the priestess who instructed Socrates in matters of love, appears in the art of classicism but disappears from the iconography of our own time.
