Matrix: Hidden

Matrix: Hidden is a self-curated exhibition at Galerija Mulec in Ljubljana, 2026 — an artistic process in three parts, united into a whole.

The first part is the stone: white marble sculptures — “World-insight”, Vortex of the Dyad, Pair and Expectation. Against the information entropy of the modern world — electronic, replicable, invented and machine-generated streams of information — carving marble and depicting pairs, births and families acquires an entirely new meaning. It becomes provocative precisely when we perceive the boundary between them and us through our own bodies, feeling their weight, volume, and the hardness of their silence.

The second part is the matrix: one hundred concrete sculptures on long shelves. Each is an original, not a copy — a number from 1 to 100 is carved into the base, with the signature “J. K. 2026”. In ninety-nine of them a double helix of copper wire is hidden, roughly two metres long, as long as the total length of the genome in each of our cells. In a single one the helix is gold, and only a radioscopic image knows which. An identical booklet, the exhibition catalogue, accompanies every sculpture, so the text is part of the work itself.

The third part is the visitors. Price is part of the design: 250 EUR at the opening, 500 during the exhibition, and a minimum of 1,000 once it closes. When a sculpture is bought, the gallerist takes it from the shelf and places a black dot on the wall. The empty spaces left by this departing population become visible traces of the visitors’ financial decisions — over a month the exhibition changes, and the visitors become its co-curators.

The project is self-curated and familial: Vilma Ducman co-created the conceptual part of the hundred sculptures, and family members and friends took part in making it. Galerija Mulec supported the production.
